January/2012

Dear Ms.Alia-Klein,
After reading the Dec.29,2011,issue of The Village Beacon Record I have decided to comment with the hopes this letter may aid in your research on violence.
On November 20,1983,at the age of 18,I was arrested for murder and was sentenced to 15 years-life.After passing my minimum term of 15 years in 1998,I still occupy a cell in a maximum security prison.
I suppose I have come a long way from where I grew up in Rocky Point. As you could see from the enclosed documents,my violent conduct did not end with my arrest in 1983.

In prison you're either one of two things;Prey or predator and from the very beginning I knew I would not be a victim of another's abuses. In other words,I do not know if violence in prison is the same as in society for I'm looking to survive this subculture.
I'm not sure if I could be of any assistance to your research, but if you have any questions I will answer them truthfully.I am beyond being humiliated and I have lost almost all that was important to me.
I am fortunate to still have HOPE for without it,I'd be an empty soul. Please do not feel that you must return the enclosed documents.
                                                                                     Sincerely,

                                                                             James W. Morgan

  1. This is Dave Sr. I read the January 2012 letter from James - It is just over seven years after James wrote the letter and I really appreciate the contribution that he has made to the cause known as Justice Reform. Thank you James. I don't think that I will stick to my plan of reading one letter a day because I know that by reading your blog I will learn a tremendous amount, which will help me with my efforts to be of better service to the folks on the inside who earned and deserve freedom and also to those who are fighting to free all who have transformed and are so missed by their loved ones and striving for justice.
